Mt. Zion, or Mount Zion, just touches the edge of Lake Decatur, and is bordered by Long Creek to the northeast, Hervey City and Dalton City to the south, and Elwin to the west. Running through Mt. Zion is Illinois Route 121 (IL 121), which will connect you to Dalton City in the south, and merges into Route 36 in the north. It's about a 15-minute drive to Decatur from Mt. Zion.
With a commute time of just under an hour to reach the city of Springfield, Mt. Zion appeals to those who are looking for small-town life—and the friendly community that comes with it.
Despite its size, there’s much to do in and around the area of Mt. Zion, especially for those who love the outdoors. This village is home to Spitler Woods State Natural Area and Fletcher Park, two green spaces that are great for walking the dog, or spending time with friends and family.
Many of Mt. Zion’s shops and restaurants are located along IL 121. These (primarily) small local businesses and restaurants offer a wide variety of options for every taste and need.
The following attractions are also nearby: Fort Daniel Conservation Area, Sand Creek Conservation Area, Scovill Zoo, Kaufman Lakeside Conservation Area, and more. Golfers will also enjoy living within the Mt. Zion area, as it is just a short drive away to Red Tail Run Golf Course and the South Side Country Club. Decatur Airport is also just 10-minutes from the heart of Mt. Zion.
